Support and evolution

Software that does not evolve becomes obsolete

Handover is not the end of the project. A 12-month warranty, support with agreed response times, and continuous improvement cycles on what we built.

DIRECT ANSWER

Budget 15% to 20% of the development cost per year to maintain and evolve a custom system, plus infrastructure and third-party services. At BITFX the first 12 months include a warranty on the delivered scope, and evolution is contracted as an hour bank or a monthly plan.

Three ways to contract it

Included warranty (12 months)

Ships with every delivery at no extra cost. Covers defect correction within what was delivered and agreed.

Hour bank

A balance of hours your company spends on adjustments, new reports, business rule changes or minor integrations, prioritized by you. We report consumption and balance, and flag it before it runs out.

Continuous evolution plan

A monthly cycle with reserved team capacity: planned, delivered and reviewed every month. This is the model for systems that are central to the operation and cannot stand still.

What support includes

  • Incident response with response times agreed by severity.
  • Availability and production error monitoring.
  • Dependency updates and security patches.
  • Backups and restore testing.
  • Living system documentation and knowledge transfer to your team.

Rescuing systems from other vendors

We take on projects another team left half-finished or that nobody can maintain anymore. The process starts with a technical audit of the code, database and infrastructure, and ends with an honest document: what can be salvaged, what should be rewritten, and what each path costs. Sometimes the answer is that rewriting is cheaper, and we say that too.

Frequently asked questions

Support and evolution: common questions

How much does it cost to maintain custom software?

The market standard is 15–20% of the development cost per year, either as an hour bank or a monthly plan, plus infrastructure and third-party services (cloud, e-invoicing stamping, APIs), which are billed to the client.

What does the 12-month warranty cover?

Free correction of defects within the delivered scope during the 12 months following each stage's handover. It does not cover new functionality or scope changes, which are quoted as evolution work.

Can you support a system you did not build?

Yes, after a technical review of the code and infrastructure. We produce an assessment that estimates the effort of taking the system over and the risks it carries. We have received several rescue projects that started with another vendor.

How are hours in a bank tracked?

With consumption reported per activity and visibility of the remaining balance. When the bank approaches its end we flag it before it runs out, not after.
